Giving Back to the Community in Rock Island

Rock island residents putting their hands together

Since 1981, our office in Rock Island has been serving the community, proudly offering quality vision care and expanding our Bard Optical family to the Quad Cities. Beyond providing vision care excellence to patients of all ages, our Rock Island staff has worked within the community – not only at fairs to educate on the importance of eye health, but for a variety of charitable organizations in the area.

Because of this, we see no better way to celebrate our own office anniversary than by uniting with Christian Care in the Quad Cities! From now until our November 10 Rock Island office anniversary, we will be collecting men’s socks for Christian Care. Please bring any donations to our Rock Island location.

Christian Care, celebrating their own 100 years in the Rock Island community, is a rescue mission in the area – aiding the homeless, those struggling with mental illness, men transitioning out of prison, and veterans. Christian Care provides safe shelter, food, clothing, and personal care items for these in-need people. In 2015, they served over 60,000 meals! Christian Care recognizes that the people they help are stuck in situations beyond their control, and just want their lives to return to normal. Their residents have access to job searches and personal counseling, skill-building groups, and case management. Chapel services are offered nightly, and Bible studies are offered Monday through Friday.

If you or someone you know needs help, Christian Care offers a 24/7 Crisis Hotline at 309.788.2273. They offer three meals a day most days – not only for residents, but any hungry person who comes to them. They serve Breakfast daily at 6:30AM, Lunch Monday through Friday at 12:15pm, and Dinner daily at 6:30pm.

If you would like to further get involved, Christian Care relies on kind donations. In addition to cash donations, they accept donations of fresh, frozen, and canned foods at both of their facilities and their Community Meal site. Residents also benefit from clothing and personal care items, cleaning supplies, and paper products. All donations can be dropped off between 8AM and 7PM at Christian Care’s Rescue Mission, 2209 3rd Ave., Rock Island.

Our Rock Island office will be collecting men’s socks for Christian Care until November 10 – when the office will celebrate their 35th Anniversary. A portion of the day’s proceeds will also be donated to Christian Care. We hope to see you there!
